In memoriam:
No one would have been happier that the 4 Star survived than my dear friend Ron Murillo. Ron, my partner Jennifer, and I have sat through many a Hong Kong double feature together at the 4 Star (and the UC, the Great Star, & the World theaters).
Ron passed away December 9, 2006 after suffering a stroke. He will be missed by his many friends. A man of varied interests and an avid collector, Ron loved Hong Kong film, Godzilla movies, Westerns, Sci-fi television, Xena: Warrior Princess, and most recently Bollywood film. He was also a prolific writer who contributed reviews and articles to fanzines long before the internet and continued to contribute to various newsgroups, websites, and online communities.
Ron was one of the sweetest men I've ever known. He was a big mushball whose favorite films were romances that made him tear up. I'll never be able to watch C'est La Vie Mon Cherie or Shall We Dance (the original Japanese version, of course) without thinking of Ron.
Ron, I hope you're hanging out with Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung talking about Hong Kong film. We miss you. |
