Zhu Xu (The King of Masks, Shower) gives yet another outstanding performance as a man caught between the disparate ideologies of his son and his father who reside at opposite ends of orthodox Confucianism. Sandwiched between long standing tradition, with its rigorous rules for family and clan, and an evolving modernist society which stresses opportunity, he struggles for resolution and some sense of harmony. A poignant and surprising look at family dynamics of three generations of men in a culturally transitional time. Directed by Wu Yi Gong. With Zhu Xu, Zhao Er Kang, Zhang Wen Rong.
